About Amber

I’m a psychotherapist and clinical counsellor with 15 years of experience in addiction treatment, based in Sydney’s Inner West. I work with people navigating substance use, gambling, disordered eating, trauma, and complex mental health needs, including mood and personality disorders. I also specialise in supporting the family members and loved ones who are affected by someone else’s addictive behaviours or mental health difficulties. My approach is grounded in the belief that most addictions develop as a way of coping with pain, trauma, or difficulty. I draw on psychodynamic, existential, and family systems frameworks, and I’m guided by harm reduction, Health At Every Size, and anti-oppressive practice principles. I work collaboratively, taking into account where someone has come from, what’s happening for them now, and what they want their life to look like. Before moving into therapy, I spent over a decade working in the music, film, and television industries. I have a particular understanding of the pressures that come with non-traditional and high-profile careers, and I regularly work with clients from the creative and entertainment industries managing addiction and mental health concerns alongside frequent travel and irregular schedules.
